NEW ALBUM /// "GLEE AND GLUTTON" /// OUT NOW!! - See Music tab
Brand new album from Sociograss, "Glee and Glutton" released on 9th May 2026.
Following on from the release of "Made It All Up" in 2024, Sociograss were commisioned by American horror novelist, Michael Park, to produce music to be featured on audiobook releases of his writings and based on his themes. Park had written a trilogy of books set in Kentucky, each one featuring a recurring song. This comission was the "Kentucky Dragon E.P." (2025)
Spending 4 days and 4 nights at the studio; a rare opportunity that was only possible due to the generous resourcing of our commissioner, Sociograss were able not only to produce that E.P but also write, arrange and record this album of our own work - a mixture of original songs and tunes and some arrangements of songs of a traditional origin.
Produced by Robin Wynn Evans at Tpot Studio in September 2025 and releasing on New Teeth Records - this is our very best work yet and we are very proud to put it out into the world.
Released on 12" vinyl, CD and all major streaming platforms.
"Rough and Rowdy with Spirit and Feeling"
Kara Martinez Bachman, The Bluegrass Standard
Sociograss's first record "Made It All Up" was released back in 2024 to good critical success and finding it's way onto radio on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
This is what people said about it:
"Sociograss is a Scottish band whose affinity for stretching the bounds of bluegrass is clearly evident"
"perfect instrumental acumen through a combination of verve and versatility"
Lee Zimmerman, Bluegrass Today
"Their unique sound encapsulates elements of oldtime and early country all tied together with bluegrass sensibilities. Ripping solo breaks and soulful vocal harmonies"
Anna Massie, BBC Scotland
"On ‘Squirrely Riders’, the individual virtuosity and outstanding ensemble playing supports the notion that Sociograss is essentially a bluegrass band. At the same time, Made It All Up, from a band still based in Edinburgh, stands out by stretching the definition of what it means to be a bluegrass band."
Doug Deloach, Songlines
"Sociograss must surely come from somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains?"
Lyndon Bolton, Americana UK
American roots music in Scotland - Sociograss is a five piece band of musicians based in Edinburgh and come together under a shared love of American roots music.
The band formed when guitarist and singer Tim Leslie of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania found himself for the first time in Edinburgh and chancing upon members of Dundee band Wire and Wool. Finding musical harmony between them and a passion for the music of Appalacia the group was soon after joined by fiddle player Ben Errington of Auld Reekie String Band, and later Conal McIntosh, on double bass.
Not a strictly bluegrass only band, Sociograss plays a fusion of bluegrass and bluegrass adjacent genres. Whilst bringing in certain sounds and conventions of oldtime, western swing, early country and early jazz into their music, Sociograss continuously applies the stylistic approaches of the bluegrass genre to their musical performances; rocksteady foot-stomping rhythm, powerfully stacked vocal harmonies and passing breaks for solos amongst the band members, exhibiting their individual technical prowess.
